Grey Poly B, and the letter from the insurer
Poly B is the grey plastic supply pipe in a lot of houses built from the late 1970s through the 1990s. It is the water supply. It is not the drain.
Why people call
An insurer asked for it to come out. A fitting started weeping. A renovation already has the walls open, and this is the time to do the house as one system instead of one wet corner.
What the job is
Grey polybutylene out. PEX in. A full replacement, so the supply is one system again and the requirement is met.
It is a planned job. Send the town, and whether an insurer set a date. The first step is seeing how the house is piped. You get a scope before the walls come open. I do not price a whole-house repipe from a guess on the phone.
If the insurer needs my ticket, ask me for it before the work starts.
